The Idea of North

A Prelude in Tea Supper Series Concert

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the difficult decision has been made by the artists to cancel this event.

All ticketholders are offered the option of either receiving a full refund, or donating their ticket price to support the artists through this difficult period in the performing arts sector.

If you are a ticket holder please contact the Independent Theatre at to let us know your preference.

We will continue to work alongside the event organisers to reschedule these performances and notify patrons of new information once this critical period has passed. Details will also be posted on the Independent Theatre website as they come to hand. We greatly appreciate your understanding and support through this challenging period.

Please see a message from the Artists below.

From the Idea of North.

Hello to all of our lovely supporters. How on earth are you? We are thinking of you and missing you a lot! We know many of you are not having a great year, and we send our love and support to those doing it tough.

As you can imagine, we in The Idea of North are feeling rather discombobulated. With members spread throughout Australia and the world, it has been impossible to even rehearse, let alone perform, since that memorable concert at the Adelaide Fringe on March 14. We miss singing together terribly and are hanging out for the next opportunity we will have to be in the same room, making the music we love so much. Our thoughts are also with our colleagues in the arts industry reinventing, struggling, searching and waiting for the sun to break through these clouds.

We are currently taking the time to explore some of our other passions: teaching, writing, cooking, yoga, building houses...and staying healthy! Our business will remain on a hiatus until sometime next year, and our website is currently being revamped, so our Facebook page is the best way to stay connected in the interim. Any big news or major happenings will be communicated here. And you can still email us at or

If there's anything you would like to suggest, musical or non-musical, we'd love to hear from you.

Single tickets:  Adult $49, Concession $32, Student $22

Subscriptions from $87 Concession and $132 Adult.

The Idea of North are entirely deserved of their reputation as Australia's most awarded, best loved and longest running contemporary vocal group. This multi-ARIA Award-winning ensemble will astound and move with their incredible arrangements, flawless harmonies and dry, deadpan Aussie sense of humour. You'll not only experience world-class a cappella singing, but such is the group's down-to-earth nature, you'll also leave feeling as though you've know each member of the group for years. Since forming originally in 1993, there have been only a few changes to the line up over the years, but each time the group seems to improve their sound, their blend, their musicianship, and now, as a quintet, The Idea of North is in it's most exciting and versatile incarnation yet. Simply not to be missed.

The best of Sundays, Supper and Song. Featuring voice and vocalists, the new Prelude Supper Series concerts are followed by a wine and cheese supper and a chance for a chat with the artists.
