We are currently operating with minimal theatrical lighting and sound which will be upgraded at the end of 2025.
Auditorium
250+ seat Theatre with Lighting, Sound, Projection and a Steinway Grand Piano suitable for a variety of performances.
Arches Foyer
Seaborn Room
Large open foyer with Bar and a small band area for audience to gather together.
Larger upstairs function room with LED screen capabilities for workshops, seminars and coferences.

Availability
We are currently accepting limited bookings for 2025.

The Theatre is available for weekend and evening bookings. ​The Theatre is used during the weekdays by Wenona School and such bookings during the school term, from Monday to Friday, are at the discretion of the Theatre Manager. We currently are not accepting long term bookings, or long running shows.

Renovations
The Independent has recently completed an aesthetic refurbishment allowing the space to reflect its art deco heritage. Ongoing works are in place to restore further design elements and interior design throughout our venue.

Please note our current theatrical lighting and sound systems are awaiting further upgrades at the end of 2025. The systems currently have minimal capabilities are best suited for smaller performances, recitals and lectures. For more information please contact us. ​​​​​

Ticketing
We hold ticketed, and non ticketed events at The Independent. Ticketed events are operated via Humanitix ticketing site and managed by the theatre leading up to your event, and for purchases on the day.

Small Bar
The Independent Theatre is a fully licensed venue with a small bar in our foyer available to book for your events along with bar tenders and bar snacks. Additional Fees apply.

Accessibility
The Independent Theatre is a heritage venue which has various stairs and staircases in its layout.
The Arches and Auditorium are wheelshair accessible, with two accessible bathrooms. Wheelchair positions in the Auditorium are in the front row and these seats can be booked directly through the box office.

The Seaborn room is only accessible via stairs, as are the dressing rooms and stages.
